Sirdar lacey bolero

Completed the bolero in good time to have all ready and wrapped to give Ania on her 2nd birthday last week. It turned out beautifully and the pearl drop button added the perfect finishing touch – a silver cachous on icing.

My current pattern brand preference is Sirdar – their patterns are well written and  crafted, I’ve always achieved excellent results. This delightful design is in Sirdar’s Dottie & Spottie book 357 – design D. The 4 row repeat lace pattern is easy as and being in DK, a quick knit, I used Snuggly. I absolutely love the K3B scallop border edging, very easy and the perfect complement to the lace stitch. Scallop will be joining Picot to my ‘easy & highly effective edgings’ repertoire – I think it’ll be handy having these up my sleeve.

I’ll post a pic of Ani wearing the bolero hopefully soon.

The needles didn’t have time to rest before I cast on for a garter rib stitch jersey for Raziel – Patons book 1271 Dreamtime 4ply.

I wanted to knit in a darker shade – more like the taupe in the book – but unfortunately that shade doesn’t seem to be available in NZ. I have my suspicions that Dreamtime is on its way out as I couldn’t track any down in Wellington and ended up purchasing online from Tauranga. Patons Patonyle 4ply would have been okay but my LYS was low on colour selection.

I made the 9 month size for Raz (he’s almost 5 months now), he’s been wearing size 6mth clothes for weeks so I figure he’ll be ready for the jersey in autumn – perfect timing for 4ply merino.

Extending the contrast borders was my insurance policy to ensure I would not have to reorder more of the beige, I  didn’t want to send for another ball for a possible scant few rows. As it turned out I had plenty of yarn and could have left them as they were.

For part of our holiday break we were camping and I made Raz’s jersey in the 2 weeks we were tent dwellers.

Finishing it a couple of days before we packed up for home enabled me to start on La petite frill – girl’s fill edge cardy.

I’m knitting the exact colours shown in the pattern book, a striking contrast of mellow pink and baby black – ooh la la for a 2yr old indeed!  (Sirdar Ooh la la! book 347). This will be another fast knit, I think it will look gorgeous on Ania with her delicate fair looks. I have lots of ideas and projects to try this year, at the rate I’m going it’ll be a productive one .

iKnit group will be restarting next week, 1 February  – I can’t wait to see what everyone else has been busy making 🙂

Everyone is welcome !
